Traumatic Small Bowel Injury: A Diagnosis Challenge

Traumatic small bowel injury is rare complication following a blunt abdominal trauma. We encountered case of motor vehicle accident that was initially missed during the first presentation due to unremarkable findings in examination. Patient re-presented five days later with ischaemia and managed accordingly. It challenge diagnosing its vague presentation. The usage Focused Assessment Sonography for Trauma (FAST) scan as screening tool Emergency Department pick up intra-abdominal do have limitations especially perforation post early phase trauma rarely produces significant free fluid FAST scan. paramount emergency doctors high level suspicion risk cases provide supportive treatment referral surgical team. If left undiagnosed may lead catastrophic affecting patient’s morbidity mortality. In conclusion, each should be stratify individually. Computed tomography abdomen found more superior detecting injuries, hence, investigation choice compared bedside ultrasonograpy suspicaion.
